Visitors to Sweden should be aware of the following regarding Taxi fare.
The Taxi service in Sweden consists of large companies and of so called ”free owners” that often only own one single car.
Taxi fare is free for the owners to decide and can vary quite a bit. Regulatory demands stipualtes that a clearly visible yellow sign should be posted on the side of the car.
This sign shows the maximum fare for a 10 km drive taking 15 minutes.
A normal fare should be around 300 sek.
We have seen taxis charging as much as 1499 sek ($214) which is close to robbery.
To avoid unresonable taxi fare remember the following before stepping into a taxi:
- Allways use well known taxi companies
- Check the yellow sign posted on the side of the car
- Allways inquire the approximate fare
- There is a fixed charge to and from many airports in Sweden.
- Ask your hotel for reliable taxis.
- Check the taxi logo. Some try to use a logo that is looking very close to an established company.
